But honestly, Kerry’s answer was just like. Listen. All of y’all whining about how there was nothing even remotely romantic about Blake and Yang’s scenes and CRWBY never expected or wanted people to read it as romantic, that was 100% not their intention. That was the perfect time for Kerry to just straight up say “No. They’re just friends. Yang was just comforting her friend who just went through something very traumatic.”
But instead he goes with “It’ll be more worth it to experience it.” Which is like. It’s only more worth it to experience it if they actually get together lmao.
And there’s also the absolutely wild crowd who’s convince themselves that RT’s deliberately making it look like Bumbleby’s going to happen (because apparently RWBY’s popularity is on the decline and they need to get people interested in it again) but Blake’s still going to end up with Sun. I don’t know how to tell you that Kerry, and most of RT, is a better, less homophobic person than you are.
When Bumbleby is canonized you do realize that it will make RWBY the show with one of the best LGBT rep around, right? Set in a non-homophobic world (which can be taken differently depending on one’s perspective, some may have wanted rep of discrimination, others didn’t), two main LGBT characters who develop throughout the course of (+)6 volumes, who have different experiences, are forced apart, and slowly figure themselves out and then end up coming together to defeat the demon who ruined their relationship, then we have good portrait and redemption of a flashed out lesbian character kicking the “psycho lesbo” trope right out of the window, portrait of a happy sapphic family with a KID, another gay couple AND the care CRWBY put into ultimately deciding to cut off the reveal of gay pilot boi because of the “Bury Your Gays” trope and that was BEFORE Voltron’s flop with Adam x Shiro which shook all fandom social media.
Like CRWBY doing god’s work?
I get that people don’t like the new release schedule and I get that not everyone can afford a First membership, and constructive criticism will help RT make a wise decision for Volume 7, but we have to take their perspective into account too here.
Making RWBY costs money. A lot of people work their asses off for months and months to give us a longer runtime and better animation with each Volume. All of them want to pay rent and eat. RWBY isn’t a show they can just throw out for free. First members are what keeps the company alive, so of course they want to make a First membership as attractive as possible. Of course they want more people to become First members, but it’s not like they’re hiding RWBY behind a paywall now and you can’t watch it unless you pay for it.
Watching Volume 6 a week later isn’t quite as bad when you’re a European and usually don’t get to watch anything from the US until like a year later. Yeah, it might be a challenging time when you’re active in a fandom regarding spoilers and such, but you still get to watch the episodes for free only a week after paying members get to watch them. Netflix shows aren’t available at all unless you have an account there or pirate it. Game of Thrones either costs me 30€ to watch the season, and only this season, nothing else, about three days after it comes out in the US, or I watch it a whole year later. Doctor Who isn’t available at all for me most of the time until after the season has ended and then I have to pay a lot of money to watch it legally.
So please try to understand RT here and keep watching their shows on the RT website. Don’t pirate them. This isn’t HBO, pirating RWBY might eventually get it cancelled. Being able to watch the show for free is absolutely amazing and we should support them in every way we can.
It’s just a week. We’ll get through this.
